Date of Travel: Feb 2007 Flying from: London Gatwick Airport Flying to: Copenhagen Airport Class: Low Cost Seat Recommended: Yes Submitted By: Albert van Biljon Comments: After a fairly quick check-in and security check, I had ample time to wander through Gatwick's South Terminal. The boarding gate didn't show until when the flight should depart, after which I made my way to the gate. Boarding went at a good pace and the flight took of around 30 minutes late.
Sterling let you buy food and drinks on board, which I seldom do. You even have to pay for water and tea and coffee, something which in my opinion should be for free. I didn't use the toilets on this flight thus cannot comment. Announcements were made in both Danish and English. The flight went without any hiccups and baggage was delivered at Copenhagen's Kastrup Airport quicker than the information screen was showing.
I was booked on the return flight a few days later, but I missed this flight due to missing the check-in by 5 minutes. Sterling would not budge AT ALL to let me check in. Admittedly, I did arrive at the airport too late and then tried to use the self-checkin machines. These machines would ask for my flight number and identification by credit card or passport, none of which worked. I spent a good couple of minutes here, which caused me to miss the check in when I finally decided to go to the counter. I was later told that the machines do not accept credit cards as identification method for Sterling flights, but there were no notice of this anywhere. Sterling refused to refund the flight, even though it was a flex-fare (GBP 184 for that leg of the journey). They did offer me a change for a flight the next day at only a smaller changing fee, but that was of no use to me.
If you fly with Sterling, stick to their rules, or don't fly with them - all they know are how to keep to the rules. If you book well in advance, you can often get very good deals and flying from Gatwick suits me better than from most other London airports.
