Comments:The 2 ancient B757's that we flew to/from Fuerteventura were really showing their age with very poor quality cabins that featured seats that have to be nearing the end of their useful life as they offered little/no support.

The seat pitch is quite frankly a disgrace, anyone over 5'10" is unable to bring their knees together and can only sit there with their legs apart, wedged in one position for many hours. Cattle are treated more humanely when being transported.

On the return flight, the plane did not have individual air nozzle outlets and as a result the cabin was very stuffy with a terribly low oxygen ratio.

The service offered by FC is all about getting as much money out of the punters as possible, the flight is interrupted by a constant stream of announcements offering snacks/drinks/scratch cards/comfort packs/headphones/questionnaires/duty-free/drinks for the onward journey etc. It's not very subtle in the way it's done, they don't like people sleeping (their purses are closed) and the cabin PA volume is turned right up to ensure anyone who does nod off even with the racket from all the screaming kids is woken up at regular intervals (I counted at least 9 PA announcements selling something).

The flights were on-time which was their saving grace but the terrible leg room should deter any tall people from flying with First Choice.

Comments:We flew with First Choice and I can honestly say, they were polite, helpful and very friendly. The gentlemen next to me was taken ill 2 hours into our flight, which I must admit frightened me a little. The flight attendants were very quick to help once they were alerted. They were also very professional.

I would definitely fly with them again.

Comments:After arriving at Palma airport we waited for our luggage on carousel. Mine and about 20 other peoples were not there, some being whole families with no luggage. I know this was not First Choices fault, but the staff were not very helpful at all. We all had to hang around Palma airport for couple of hours before we were eventually told that it was all still in Manchester. First choice reps had to arrange other transport to transfer us as coaches had had to leave, so ended up being stuck in airport for about 3 hours total, with not even offer of a drink. Considering there were young children, I found this a bit ignorant of them. We all received our luggage about 25 hours later. Then to top it all off for our return journey we had a 6 1/2 hour delay. We were not given much info about what was happening. The screens weren't even showing that there was a delay. Nobody around to ask after we had received vouchers for meal. We were given a free one of their rubbish meals as if that made up for things, on the plane. Didn't even have any snacks or drinks to buy, as they'd had to do a quick turnaround. This airline should be renamed WORST CHOICE!

Comments:We flew from Bristol Airport, never again. After checking in we then had to join a queue from the check in desk to the departure lounge. Once in the departure lounge, we were told to go to gate 2 then to gate 6 then to gate 2 then to gate 6, what a nightmare, all those people trying to change gates at one time.

The flight was about 15 or so mins late taking off.

Unfortunately the elderly gentleman who sat beside me was taken ill 2 hours into the flight. I pressed the help button and got no response. I had to walk up the plane to get who came one of the flight crew who came straight away when he realised the situation was serious. The flight crew member was very helpful and polite to the gentleman.

The service on the flight was very good.

The return flight was a little more uncomfortable as the person in front of me decided to put his seat back which gave me very little room.

I would just like to mention the fact that on the return journey the toilet at the front of the plane smelt awful from the start of the flight. Obviously wasn't cleaned properly.

Comments:The flights in both directions were on time. The food was edible though nothing to write home about.

The staff seemed were somewhat detatched, certainy you're no longer greeted properly as you embark. And on disembarkation the only reason they took any notice of you was because they were hoping to collect for some charity or other.

THE SEATS WERE A JOKE! My partner and myself are pretty average sized (slim compared with many one sees today), but conditions were very cramped. Talk about rubbing shoulders! I had to turn slightly sideways much of the time as my shoulder was hard against the aircraft on one side (window seat-no window) and my partners on the other. Being taught to eat with one's elbows in as a child helped, but eating and drinking was difficult. I managed to move my feet about and had enough legroom but the seats were very claustrophobic.

The outgoing journey was on an ageing 757 the return was newer but no less cramped.

It was a long 3 3/4hr flight...I wouldn't use this company again if there was something better on offer.

Comments:In forty years of flying this is the worst airline I have ever flown with. The seat pitch could have been no more than 24 inches and the seats themselves were faulty. The plane, an elderly Boeing 757 was on its last legs with creaks and rattles all over. It is criminal that humans should be put in such vile, cramped conditions. The EU needs to legislate against it.

The cabin crew were mainly engaged in passing out Customer Satisfaction cards (junk mail hook) and scratch cards. The ancient overhead TV monitors were blurred and smeared. I didn't pay for the headset as I was told that the soundtrack of the movie is repeatedly interrupted by 'announcements'. I was unable to fold my table down and consequently could not eat my revolting meal properly. The toilets stank and the odour permeated the cabin.

If you have enjoyed a trip with First Choice you are either very, very lucky or brain-dead. This airline stinks. Avoid it like the plague. If your travel agent tries to work them on you, get a new agent.

Comments:My flight to Sharm el sheik was slightly delayed 15 mins. Service on board was very good despite the cramped conditions for the cabin crew. The leg room was extremely poor for a 5 hour flight and eating the in flight meal very difficult. Towards the end of the flight so many people were using the toilets that the crew had to shut them because the tanks were full. I think this was mainly because the gangway became too congested for the cabin crew too operate efficiently. Overall good flight very poor leg room good cabin service.

Comments:This aircraft was not suitable for long haul, only 5 smelly toilets to over 200 people. The flight was dirty. The food was the worst i have ever had.
No offers of water to prevent dehydration and on the return flight bottled water was also sold out.

The staff on the return journey were miserable and bleary eyed, I overheard one of them complaining to a passenger that they had been on the go for over 20 hours, Is this acceptable !!

I will never ever use First choice again.

Comments:We have travelled with First Choice Airways on a number of occasions and have no real complaints at all, as ever, the food quality on airlines tends to be poor-ish, but that said it is edible, hot, and it's better than nothing. Being tall we find most airlines lacking in legroom unless of course you pay for the extra legroom. We have used and recommended First Choice quite a few times.

Comments:We booked flight 3 days before departure for a very good price £40 each less than we had paid for same flights with Excel 2 weeks before . Good fight out (yes leg room is minimal but you come to expect this with charter flights you get what you pay for. The only complaint was the fact that yet again we had to wait on tarmac because there were no steps or coaches available this was not First Choice's fault and can only praise the cabin crew for keeping us informed as to the problem. Will fly again if the price is right.

Comments:Flight delayed for 9 Hours!!!!! Told We had a 3 hour delay which then stretched to 6 hours without ground staff even bothering to tell anyone, we were told the aircraft was ready to go and all fixed but my mum who works for first choice was told by the captain that the plane was still seriously broken and that the cabin crew might have to go home! So eventually we were offloaded off of this aircraft and delayed for a further 3 hours until a spare plane from Mahon came in. This wasn't first choice airways fault at all so they are not to blame. Ground staff e.g. Swiss port and baa are the ones that should be punished!

First choice were very helpful and gave each passenger 20 pound to spend on food during the delay! And the pilot was even brave enough to come into the cabin and speak to everybody over the pa system.

Great and hard work first choice a* to the airline!

Comments:Departed Birmingham Airport around 30 late. Traveled with a disabled child and was taken onto airside before all other passengers only to be met with a delay waiting for the correct transport to take us other to the aircraft, so eventually we were last on. Sat in row 2 right at front. Toilets so tiny, baby changing facilities but baby must be tiny to fit on pull down table. Return journey delayed from Sharm el sheikh departure boards said boarding then changed to departed, no explanation and no staff available to tell you anything.

Manchester flights always seem to be delayed.

Comments:One hour delay. Cabin at first cold enough for frost bite despite many passengers complaining and after a few 'Comfort Packs' at £5 being sold the cabin suddenly got warmer. Funny that! Then unbearably hot for most of the way home. Leg room was awful I felt cramped and confined. Give me Easy Jet any day, far more comfort. Despite paying £15 for a meal which we couldn't eat as the heat, by then had made my daughter and I feel quite unwell asked for squash to drink and was told by the attendant that squash was for the children only and she couldn't (or wouldn't) serve it to us. I ask you! After my wife remonstrating with the attendant we were reluctantly treated to half a cup of squash. Oh and in case you're wondering, they ran out of water! They also don't seem to be able to tell the difference between night and day flights as this, being a night flight landing at 02:00h did not dim the cabin lights at all (apart from landing), ah yes, those comfort packs had eye shades. They kept the PA announcements going about duty free sales etc. Overall very disappointed.

Comments:26 hour delay with extremely poor information/communication. Desperately inadequate customer care including:

* Many hours without announcements and no First Choice Rep available
* dumped by coach at small hotel. 227 passengers given vouchers to spend at small hotel.
* Left to find way back to coach for return trip to airport - no rep present
* Many hours without info in airport
* Paltry and inedible meal at midnight in airport.
* Miserable overnight accommodation in "hostel" accommodation (we had to make our own beds)
* Inedible breakfast - stale cornflakes and food running out without being replenished.
* mixed messages regarding packing of duty-free bottles causing chaos at check-in
* Lack of facilities and zero customer care while in airport
* No meals on board plane (despite the fact that we had pre-booked them)
* Cabin staff had the nerve to sell snacks to us!! We were not served our complimentary drink until 90 minutes into the flight (they were more keen to sell their wretched watches and jewellery)
* Very inadequate customer service phone calls so far

This company failed to live up to its own published values and procedures.

Comments:Just used First choice, for our recent holiday. we had no problems what so ever. The flights both ways were on time with no delays. Staff on both flights were also very cheerful considering they were kept very busy. We will definitely use again.

Zante airport was lovely on arrival, but very dismal on departure, there were very very few seats in the departure lounge, so everyone was sitting or lying on the floor. You could barely walk across the floor. The food area was grim and really expensive.

What you need to do and we will do next time is to drop off your baggage and collect tickets, then go back outside and sit under the trees in the shade. You can then go into the Departure lounge just before your flight is to be called. That way you can eat and drink your own food. Once you go through the security you will not have this option. However there are notices about saying they re in the middle of moving to the new terminal, so hopefully next year all will be sorted.

Comments:Well my family were travailing from Dublin Airport to Malaga on the 5/09/07 with a departure time of 05:30. When we were boarding the Canadian Reg Boeing 757/200 C-GTTB. The Irish and British cabin crew welcomed us warmly on bout and were very helpful even though it was 05:30 in the morning. We left a wet Dublin on time with our American pilot telling us what runway we were taking of on. After take off and we reached our cruising altitude of 36000ft the cabin crew started there service which was amazing showing the newest sherk to the passengers. They started selling food and drinks and there products which were very good value. After the 2:55min flight we started our descent into Malaga. We landed 15 minutes early. After walking from the plane to the baggage hall the bags were already out and we were welcomed by First Choice Reps which directed us to our Bus. This was the best start to a holiday I had ever had.
Thanks a million to the First Choice Crew/Reps.

Comments:Our destination was Kos but due to diverse weather conditions we had to land at Rhodes for the night. We were left on Rhodes airport with no refreshments despite these being available on the aeroplane but the airline did not have to offer us refreshments until after 4 hours had passed by! We were transferred to a hotel for the night eventually & after 3 x hours sleep, we were told there was no connecting flight to Kos & we had to travel the remaining part of the journey by ferry which took 4 x hours for the crossing. This took in all a further 8 hours travelling in total, with our suitcases for a family of 4 (2 x children, 1 in a buggy!!!) When we complained, we were offered no compensation & missed 24 hours of our holiday. We had booked a 5* all-inc holiday, but were offered £0 for the inconvenience/extra costs we incurred. Would definitely not book with this company again. The outward travel & 1st day of the holiday really was a day from hell!

Comments:Flight was 7 hours late. Was told of 6 hour delay at check-in. This was known before we departed hotel but we were taken to the airport anyway. Reus is a small airport without the facilities to cope with an aircraft full of passengers. No information on passenger rights provided. No phone call. Taken out of airport for lunch after 3 hours without any food or drinks provided. When contacting customer services about compensation for delayed flight (in accordance with EU regs) they ignore emails and letters. Unfortunately I had booked another holiday with this lot before I experienced this nightmare - but never again! Steer clear of First Choice holidays and airways.

Comments:We booked extra legroom seats on both outward and return flights at a cost of £60. On the outward flight the temperature by the doors was absolutely freezing. Despite asking the crew to do something about this, the heat was not put on until 10 minutes before landing. My wife was so cold she was nearly in tears. We even asked the crew for a blanket, only to be told it would cost £5 for a comfort pack!!

On the return flight, we were given the rear emergency exit seats. The temperature was still the same, and to make matters worse, the door had an emergency slide attached to the inside. This meant one leg was jammed against the slide so your whole body was at an angle for the whole flight. Also, the TV monitor was situated right above this row, making it virtually impossible to watch without severe neck problems. We are currently in contact with First Choice for a refund. If you have booked extra legroom seats take extra clothes and some thick socks. You have been warned.

There was no welcome smile or greeting, In fact quite the opposite. We were made to feel like an inconvenience. One air hostess in particular, walked around as if sucking a lemon. When my mum asked a simple question, she was 'tutted' at. My mum was very upset by her rudeness. All smiles when trying to sell scratch cards, blankets and pillows etc. I feel they are just money making scams now.

Comments:I traveled with First Choice Airways as it was part of my holiday package. I was very pleased with the pilot and the flight attendants A.K.A sky girls, air hostesses, stewardesses or stewards. The service by the flight attendants going to Bodrum Airport was good but a bit slow. Maybe this is a good thing but it doesn't feel like that if you're about 40 rows down, as the work from the back to the front. The reason I put zero (0) for food was just simply because we didn't apply for any.

We had a slight bit of turbulence on both out-bound and in-bound flights but the flight attendants reassured us everything was fine and kept us all calm. The films were good (out-bound Mission Impossible 3 and in-bound Music and Lyrics) and helped you relax.

Overall a very good flight!

Comments:Our flight FCA 3625 was scheduled to depart Palma at 13.35 Sat 23rd June. Due to a tech fault in UK, we finally departed at 6.30pm Sun 24th June. In fact ALL First Choice flights from Palma that day were delayed.

Whilst such a technical delay cannot be avoided, and indeed we would not complain about the delay as such because of this, our treatment by First Choice ground staff in Palma was appalling. They gave no information whatsoever for many hours ( the flight simply disappeared from the screens and NO announcements were made over the tannoy. ) We were, despite great efforts, unable to find out anything whatever until 6.15 in the evening of Sat 23rd, when someone came and handed us a voucher for 6 euros, which would not even buy a burger. Nothing else was given to us.

Many passengers were 'blackmailed' into departing to airports elsewhere (Birmingham, Manchester, Gatwick) from where they would also then have a long coach journey, by being told that there were not enough hotel rooms available in Palma due to a 'big festival'. This was in fact a blatant lie.

We were then told those remaining would be going to a hotel - we eventually arrived there at past 1am on Sun 24th, where we were unable to even get a drink, apart from tap water.

The hotel was NOT full to capacity and could have handled ALL the passengers.

We were told to report to reception at 10am for further information, and were taken back to the airport at 12.30, having been told we would definitely be departing at 2.30, and the aircraft had already taken off from the UK and was on its way.

On arrival at the airport we asked whether the aircraft had in fact yet left the UK and found it had not. The person from First Choice who admitted this threw her hands in the air and cried "I can't take any more of this" before rushing off. Please note, she was, we were told, the 'most senior person here', and she was not being harassed or abused, everyone was speaking to her calmly and politely, but apparently she had had a hard day the day before. So had we - and we were not getting paid for it!!

We could have spent considerably longer at the hotel in comfort and had lunch - presumably this is why they shipped us out for yet more hours in the airport, as giving us lunch would have cost extra money. We eventually departed at 16.30GMT, which was actually 6.30pm local time.

The baggage handlers were on a go-slow, and had still not finished loading our baggage by the time we had been on the aircraft for 1 hour and 20 minutes. After we boarded the Captain immediately told us he hoped we would not "vent our frustration" on his crew despite the delay, as "we have had a very long day and some of us are having to work on our day off." We found this offensive and patronizing in view of our own ordeal- they do, after all, get very well paid and would receive extra time off - we customers would receive nothing!

The Captain also told us just before take-off that there was not enough room in the holds for all the baggage, given that they had combined us with passengers from another flight, however, when we arrived at East Midlands ground staff confirmed that the holds were not both full, the pilot had simply decided not to wait any longer, so many of us had no luggage. My companions and I eventually received all our luggage on Thursday 28th June.

In total, the passengers from my flight were delayed for 29 hours and 45 minutes.

The aircrew, apart from the Captain with his crass remarks, on our return journey, were fine, however, I was astonished to find that when we were served with a very unappetizing meal, it is "policy" not to serve second cups of tea or coffee, although they would be happy to sell us a cup of Kenco at £1.80p each. Given the extremely lengthy delay I believe the Captain should have authorised the serving of complimentary drinks - I know very well he could have done this. I was not expecting free alcohol, but to be charged for tea or coffee or soft drinks in the circumstances added insult to injury. It was not even possible to get a cup of water without paying - they carried bottles of mineral water at £1.50 each.

The Servisair personnel on the ground back at East Midlands were excellent.

The First Choice ground staff at Palma were inefficient, unhelpful, told us a number of actual lies, and their attitude was generally of smug complacency.

A very comprehensive and lengthy complaint is on its way to the Chairman of First Choice.

Jane Martin has given a detailed account of passenger's dreadful experience of First Choice on this occasion although I believe she has been too kind. Many more lies were told and passengers were treated like second class citizens. Promises were made by staff which turned out to be totally false and most importantly, First Choice failed to advise passengers of their rights under E.U law despite repeated requests for information.

Passengers, in general, were very calm and only wanted updates and information but whenever a contentious matter was raised, staff walked away claiming that they were being harassed.

Comments:We flew on 25th June with FCA to Porlamar, Margarita for our wedding, we found the service to be second to none. No delays and the free drinks started with pink champagne when we had barely sat down. The seats were lovely and wide and loads of room for our legs. Great choice of films, free headphones, meals were lovely, choice of 2 meals and four courses. Air Stewards/esses were great on the way out (although on the way back you could have slapped their faces with a wet kipper!!!) and could not do enough for you. It was the captain's birthday so it was a happy birthday flight!!!!!!

All in all I found FCA to be brilliant on this occasion and would use them again, but after reading some reviews on here I would probably not go economy as this sounds a lot different to our experience.

Flight and food was good staff pleasant but delayed on return by 3 hours, the check ins at Almeria did not open till 12:30 so the staff knew about the delay but did not inform any passengers because then we would be allowed food vouchers very devious.

Comments:We had a fantastic flight departing from Glasgow and also on our return. The air crew were excellent very pleasant and helpful, and friendly. The aircraft seat space was a bit tight, but we have been on worse. However on the return flight, the exit door seats were empty and we asked a member of the flight crew if we could maybe move to those seats, she agreed, which was bliss with all that extra leg room. We will definitely fly with First Choice again. 100% quality service.

When the meals arrived the children where given adult meals (which they did not eat), I asked the hostess why they had adult meals, the answer was no child meals have been put on the plane then she walked off. I had ordered children's meals for a reason.........

Comments:My comments are so much about the aircraft, but more directed at the facilities.

I Arrived very early (first in queue) for each departure so that I could request the use of the Emergency Exit seats.
I explained to all at the check in that I could not have a comfortable or safe journey if stuck in a normal seat and it would be even worse if I was on an isle and others would want to exit from time to time I also explained that I would not be able to use the drop down tray if placed in a normal seat.
They said “No problem at the check in desk”, but did they allocate me the seat… NO!!
I was (on the outbound flight) stuck in the middle of the seats and on the return stuck at the back.
Not very nice…

I am a big bloke (not through choice) and felt quite embarrassed at the fact that the seat belt's were just under an inch to small which resulted in my request for an extension belt, the ladies from the cabin crew were very discrete and understanding when passing the extension belt, but it still left me feeling a little uncomfortable and embarrassed especially after I had explained my dilemma to the check in staff, ..maybe that's what all the giggling was after I moved away from the check in. who knows..
What I do know is that I make the effort to be early to cause less fuss and hopefully have a pleasant flight and every time get stuck in totally the opposite of what I have requested.. Not bad for our so called caring airline companies eh!!

I never get the meal that is bought and paid for or even a drink as the stewards will not allow me to “Just hold the cup” I had to have somewhere to place the cup.

Their new slogan.. We got their money.. Who cares.. Let's fly….

I do not want special treatment, but their must be hundreds like me out there even thousands and most stay at home simply because our super caring air companies do not care or even take note….
I would say let's fly BA, they have great seats and cater for all humans no matter their size, but I am afraid out of my league for cost so I am stuck with being the butt of what I can only assume some call fun and struggle to sit where ever I am sent.

I would like to thank the passengers that was unfortunate to have been placed in the same row as me for being patient and understanding..

Comments:Flight FCA780 on 7th may.

Reserved 2 extra leg room seats (extra £20 per seat per journey) a whole 7 months before flight, which was confirmed, reconfirmed and finally re- reconfirmed on tickets 6 days before departure, and mentioned on flight tickets.

On check in not given extra leg room seats which where queried with the check in person, who checked their list and said we where not on the extra leg room list. She re-issued us with different seats and said they where extra leg room seats.

Got on plane. They where not. Chief cabin person took out complaint but could not do anything as all extra leg room seating had been allocated.

Apparently our extra leg room seats where resold to someone else, despite reserving and paying for them some 7 months previous.

We now have to write to first choice for a refund, and prove our extra leg room seats where not provided, despite 2 complaints to their staff and foreign office.

Comments:Both outward and return flights left on time.

The planes are well equipped with seat back entertainment and leather seats, plenty of legroom in normal economy and plenty of width in the seat too - better than BA long haul flights we have taken.

Food was OK, drinks are all pay as you go.

The only problems we found were:
Because the seats are leather you tend to slide forward in them when stretching out.
Our row was in front of the emergency over wing exit, so did not recline as much as others.
On the return, when everyone wants to go to sleep as quickly as possible, they dimmed the lights but kept us waiting for almost 4 hours before they served dinner.
The crew were not as customer friendly on the homeward flight as they had been going out (we've had this with BA and Continental as well - maybe it's the thought of a night shift!)

Having said all that, a very good flight considering it was a charter and with more leg room and seat back entertainment than many scheduled airlines. Would certainly fly with then again

My daughter and I were in normal seats and found them quite comfortable. The breakfast served was ok but nothing special.

On our return a notice on the check-in desk said we could buy an extra leg-room seat for 25 euros. When we enquired on one for my husband he was given a seat free of charge!! Must be his model looks!!

Return flight landed early and the cottage pie was lovely. My daughter greatly enjoyed the turbulence unlike myself!!

Comments:After traveling with 1st choice 4 times in the last 3 years we were somewhat dismayed. (I think this would be the last) we checked in with 2 cases which had a combined weight of 48 kgs, 8 kilos over. We had to pay an excess of 64 euros I mentioned that we had no hand luggage which we were allowed 5 kilos each. If we had the extra 10 kilos as hand luggage we would not have had to pay the excess. This bit I did not understand. It was going on the same plane. We left Manchester airport with 2 kilos extra but did not get charged any excess. But our outbound flight was fully booked and empty seats, where as the inbound flight had 2 empty seats. So I think they were recuperating some extra money for the empty seats. Would the plane and its passengers be a lot safer if the load was in the hold and not in the overhead compartments?

Comments:Flying with first choice was ok, the seats were comfortable, not much room, even though my legs are short. I slept for most of the flight, so I don't really remember much. I was very warm and cosy which is unusual. Usually I find I'm cold on the plane.

Coming back we were delayed by 45 mins. The plane was clean, and comfortable. The last hour of the flight seemed very rushed when they were selling the duty free, there was no organisation, and they didn't seem to have a clue what they had in stock. In fact my husband asked for 400 cigs after a long wait he had 200 thrown at him, they took the money asked him if he wanted a bag and that was thrown at him too. The plane was actually starting to land and they were still handing out duty free. I've never seen anything like It.

The flight attendants were very friendly and very helpful, the last bit of the flight I think was nothing really to moan about.

Wheelchair from my taxi to Departure Lounge, then a buggy to the aircraft and very helpful flight crew to get me on. At the other end, more of the same - an Ambulift to take me off and another wheelchair through Customs and Passport Control and help on to the coach. Coming back, the same wonderful service from all, including the buggy which took me straight to my taxi in the car park. I cannot thank them enough, they made my holiday so pleasant and I shall have no hesitation in using them again when possible.

My daughter wanted some perfume as a special gift for her birthday, and was told we might have some, and we might not. When the stewardess brought her some it was thrust at her and demanded the money without a please or thank you, there were no bags to put perfume in.

We were asked to fill in a questionnaire, and they took these back before any meals or duty free came around, so they were filled in before you could have any opinion of what was to come.

Comments:First Choice - Third rate! FCA 2547 Naples to Manchester on Saturday 7th Oct 06 (also applies in part to FCA 2546 MAN to NAP). It should have been Friday the 6th but we were subjected to a 6 hour delay.

The fun (sic) stated when we left Sorrento for the flight home, rumours started that there was going to be a delay and then when we got to Naples airport it was confirmed that there was a two hour delay, but no explanation given. This was very soon updated to a 4 hour delay - again no explanation. Anyway we were resigned to a long delay, but nothing prepared us for what was to follow.

We checked in and made the obligatory transfer from the cattle shed (charter terminal) to the main terminal. Very soon the delay was extended to 6 hours, but we were given a myriad of excuses (sorry reasons) for the delay which ranged from the sublime to the ridiculous. Either it was downright lies or shear incompetence by the reps at Naples airport, either way there were certainly a lot of very angry and frustrated passengers by this time.

The supervisor (Christine) of the reps was absolutely useless, she had no control as to what the other reps were telling people and refused to tell us what was REALLY happening. The reasons were: 1. Strike by air traffic control at Naples. 2. Strike by air traffic control at Manchester. 3. Bad weather. 4. Flight gone technical.

We were given meal vouchers for €7.20 which most of the outlets refused to honour and those that did were the fast food / junk food ones.

at no time did the First Choice reps attempt to keep us up to date as to what was happening and the 'real reason' for the delay, we were continually fobbed of with "we can only tell you what we know" and that differed dependent upon who you spoke to. Eventually we did get a straight answer from the Citalia ground staff manager, as Citalia had people on that flight as well. What really made matters worse was that Citalia knew at 16.00 hours that there was a problem and it was confirmed to them at 17.30 hours that the delay would be 6 hours and the reasons why. This was confirmed by the pilot when we finally boarded - the original plane had a transponder fault and the spare part was in a taxi stuck on the M6 behind an accident. Therefore another plane and crew had to be found and flown out.

Credit due to the captain (even though he sounded as pee'd off as we were) he did apologize, BUT at no time did we receive an apology from First Choice - only the offer of a free drink on the plane. Then to really rub salt into the wound, when we got to Manchester, First Choice handed out a letter suggesting we claim off our insurance - totally abdicating their responsibilities under the new and extended EC regulations for the obligations of airlines to provide recompense in the event of delays. Now I am by no means a lawyer on such matters (but I know a very nice man who is) but my understanding is that delays over 5 hours warrant a full refund of the flight costs. Please watch this forum for further developments.

Comments:They are what they are really aren't they. Booked a cheap last minute holiday so value-wise I can't complain as I couldn't have got to Crete any cheaper.

If you don't want to pay much money (which I didn't) you have to expect to compromise and to be fair to First Choice, if it weren't for the very limited leg room this would be a pretty good choice for a charter / package flight.

The flight back was not as good as the outward leg, a delay of an hour or so wouldn't really have been as issue were it not for the stroppy aircrew trying to remove the chips from their shoulders.

You could do a lot worse than First Choice (and believe me, I have!) but in the cut throat world of package holidays I don't expect that you would be able to do much better.

Comments:I fly frequently, and I can honestly say I have never flown on a carrier with so little seat space. There was barely enough room between rows to even stand, let alone someone over 6' sit without knees wedged in place against the seat in front.
I was constantly banged and barged into by unfriendly/unsmiling cabin crew.

Food was the usual charter airline stodge - only identifiable from the overly optimistic description. I wouldn't have bought it, it was included as part of the holiday package.

Overall I would never fly with 'first choice' if I actually had a choice, but Sunsail are part of the First Choice group - so there's actually 'no choice'!

Comments:Gatwick check-in staff not very 'people' friendly - but most are not these days (when was the last time you saw one who smiled?). We were late getting to the airport (accident on M25) and, once through security, had to go straight to the boarding gate; on arrival there, we asked if we had time to get a coffee (having had nothing to drink for over 5 hours) and were told (by another non-friendly member of staff) that drinks were not permitted in the waiting lounge so we should not get one - only to see other people coming in well after us (as we had well over half-an-hour in there) bring in drinks - we were not happy!!

Seats were quite soft, but leg room very poor. The meal on-board was one of the worst we've had in recent travels, although they did make an effort to find another meal for one of my companions when they realised he did not like the chicken option. One of my biggest gripes is that, whilst watching the film, one of the stewards came over the system to tell us about the 'in-flight shopping options', which completely ruined the film.

I've been on First Choice before and was happy with them - but my general opinion is that they have gone downhill a bit but, luckily not as bad as Monarch have got!!

We did get meal vouchers after the correct number of hours and taken to a hotel overnight (information from airport not First Choice) but the delay still cost us a lot of personal money at airport. They did not have the child meal we'd paid for on-board (on either out or inbound flight) we had to buy a blanket, pillow and earphones (and after a 20 hour delay you want them!) - Staff were friendly but were too busy selling lottery tickets to serve drinks. A hellish nightmare I never want to repeat.

The chaos at Paphos airport had to be seen to be believed - Outbound delayed again (2 hours) with no information, no rep, no apologies (the pilot gave the most information but that was once we were on the plane). Would not recommend under any circumstances.

We were stood in the check in queue when a letter was passed down the queue stating due to unscheduled maintenance our plane was being downgraded to a 757, no staff available to answer any questions once on the plane we realised legroom was 29" no personal TVs or scheduled flight entertainment!

We also had to stop at Bangor Maine to refuel adding extra time to an already long journey! The aisle wasn't big enough to move around the aircraft and it was nearly 2hrs into the flight before we were able to get a drink due to new security measures this was unacceptable and I believe that this particular aeroplane is substandard and not acceptable for transatlantic flights!

Took us to the airport only to be handed a letter to say it was delayed a further 3 hours. By then nobody had any sleep, and us being in our sixties, we didn't feel too good. The point is the reps knew 4 hours before we got there that information, they could have let us stay longer. Some people had been at the airport for 10 hours.
