Comments:I have said I would recommend to a friend, but if the service I got this time is anything to go by, I may change this soon. I had my first trip with Emirates Jan. 2006 and enjoyed it.

This time a few issues:
1) On flight to Singapore from Dubai, Tuesday 14th August, landed 2000hrs, the pilot/captain was speaking in Chinese/Arabic language only and there was no one translating that for the other passengers. I felt some arrogance in that regard.
2) On checking in at Singapore airport, I was asked if I was going to Johannesburg. The answer was yes and she used that to route my luggage to Johannesburg. It was only after that I asked her to confirm that the luggage was destined for Harare that she apologised that she had routed it to Johannesburg. I tried to re-route my luggage in Jhb, but there was no one at the counter and I had to proceed without my luggage.

On arrival in Harare I reported the issue and communication was sent that same night to Swissport at Johannesburg. That was Tuesday 21 and up to now as I write this I still haven't received my luggage. The luggage authorities here tell me they have communicated several times with Emirates people in Johannesburg but they are not cooperative. I have taken it upon myself to phone them and follow up but the two phones are going unanswered. What service is this?

Comments:I normally travel to Australasia with Singapore Airlines and have been very pleased with them. However, Emirates were offering a good deal on first class tickets and I decided to try them out.

The first class cabin in the new Airbus 340-500 is wonderful, but I would not pay the extra money again. Business is almost as good, and after all, the comfort on such a long flight is more important, and not all the "extras" of first class.

We were delayed on the outward journey due to fog at Dubai airport, and therefore were on arrival at Dubai were rushed through to our connection. The rest of the flight went fine. Good staff and food.

The return journey coincided with an accident at Dubai airport, so our first flight was delayed by 3 hours. This meant we missed our connecting flight from Dubai to Manchester. Before arrival in Dubai the aircraft crew gave no instructions as to what to do in the terminal.

We disembarked to face complete chaos. We found a counter, but were told we had to queue in the first class queue, which took much longer than the other queues (I guess because first class customers are fussy beggars). There were people walking right past us in the queue to grab the attention of the staff at the counters, and the staff would then deal with them. This is red rag to a bull to any English person who knows the "rules" of queuing!

After queuing for nearly three hours, and then given a flight out 14 hours later (with a stop in Gatwick), I insisted on being given a hotel. We were given a lovely hotel, and meal vouchers, and the afternoon and evening in Dubai was quite pleasant. When arriving in Gatwick, I found that they had misplaced my luggage.

The representative at the airport was very helpful but could only do so much. He escorted us through to the terminal where we would take the short flight on BA to Manchester. I faced problems with hand luggage restrictions of the UK, which was unexpected as I had not anticipated a stop and reboard within the UK. The suggestion that I pack my hand luggage in my suitcases, which, given that they were lost, would have been amusing, had I not been so tired.

The flight to Manchester was delayed an hour - not long - but given that I had already been travelling almost two days, seemed interminable. My luggage finally turned up the next day.

Overall, I think emirates is a good airline, but only when things are running smoothly. I think Singapore Airlines is so much better - and the stopover is much much better than Dubai.

Comments:My first and last flight on the A340 500. I have never been so cramped in my life. I am average height 5' 8", but when the seat in front was put back (which it was for the whole 14 hours) I was unable to put my feet on food stool as stowed tray was in the way, I couldn't read as the light was obscured by the seat in front and finally, when watching the screen, it was far to close to my face.

Sorry Emirates, pleasant staff but that's not enough.

Comments:On arrival at Dubai we were directed to fast track passport control what a joke took just as long if not longer than other passport control.

Then discovered my suitcase had gone missing - was told that it would be found within next couple of hours and delivered to hotel for when we awoke in the morning - obviously 1st fob off - then took a further hour or so waiting to complete forms for lost luggage. Following morning luggage had not arrive at hotel by 10.45 am - concierge checked with airport and was advised our luggage had been found but would not be delivered until 4pm that afternoon - this was fob off number 2 - when luggage still hadn't arrived at hotel by 6.30 pm concierge checked again with airport and was told luggage would be delivered to hotel at 11pm - Not at all pleased by this time - I spoke to airport myself and asked why when luggage had been located by 10.45 that morning was it taking so long to get to hotel - fob off number 3 - very sorry but because of all regulations with lost luggage could not possibly have been delivered any sooner.

Finally received luggage at approx. 20 to twelve that night - completely ruined start of holiday thought having travelled business class would at least of been able to put themselves out just a tiny bit and get my suitcase to me less than 23 hours after arriving in Dubai.

WILL NOT BE TRAVELLING EMIRATES AGAIN!

Comments:Emirates are a victim of their own success. Over the 6 years I've used them standards took a nose dive. Lounge facilities are no longer adequate, not enough seating, poor boarding arrangements for flights from DBX to MUC. Arriving from MUC is really off putting as everybody gets bused for a long time and then herded into an arrival facility where nobody queues and nobody makes an effort to do anything about it. Emirates used to be great. First class is still o.k. but it depends a lot on the crew.

Comments:The least available leg room in an airline. Please avoid if possible avoid especially on overnight flights. Dubai airport is horrible. Really cramped although it’s huge. Even the toilets are horrible in Dubai airport. The transit times are also longer if you are travelling Emirates
